In these economic times, the Chinese New Year Committee worked hard to design a fun event for families and friends to gather and share our new year traditions at reduced costs. Hotel banquets rates continue to go up. We therefore looked for alternate formats that retain the social and culinary aspects, but are more cost effective. We have managed to do so by moving our party to a different location. Ticket prices have been significantly reduced, thus encouraging more people, especially families, to attend.  

This year, the OCAFC New Year Celebration will be held at the beautiful new Academy of Information Technology and Engineering (AITE), the building behind the current Rippowam School on High Ridge Road in Stamford, where the Chinese Language School of Fairfield County conducts classes on Sundays.  

Date: Saturday, January 29, 2011, from 5-10 PM 

Food will continue to be catered by Jasmine Restaurant, but served buffet style.  Seating will be open, but reserved tables will be held for those who purchase whole tables of 8.  Early bird rate for reserved tables end Jan 8. 

Keynote speaker will be Dr. Peter Lin, a practicing psychologist and professor at St. Joseph's College. He works with people of all ages on issues such as anxiety and depression. He will talk about these in context of Asian communities.   

Governor-Elect Dan Malloy, who has faithfully attended our dinners in the past, has again been invited as our honored guest. There will again be entertainment from CLS, raffles and dancing to the DJ.  We have added zumba. the current craze in aerobics workouts. Get your dancing shoes on, ready for some fun Latin exercise! Our Dr. Tienni Chen who accompanied the OCA Chorus two years ago, and Steven Chin, PTA Chair at CLS will be our MCs for the evening.

We have a 10-course Chinese buffet catered by Jasmine of Westport. There will be entertainment, Zumba, raffles and dancing. We have started to collect raffle prizes.
